The rapids described by Clark are to the right of this photo. The opposite bank was a large, sandy beach when the Corps stopped here to dry their gear. Today, a large dike has been built, and the area is used mainly for farming.

The Current of the River has run rapid the most part of the way this day, & in some places we found the River very deep.
